Preventing Ice Damage With Heat Cables

When ice forms on roofs it can prevent snowmelt from draining normally, causing an ice dam. As water backs up behind the dam it can infiltrate the roof, causing damage to walls, ceilings and the underlying structure. On larger, more complex roofs, snow removal can be a challenge as well as a safety hazard. One option to prevent ice damage is to install heating cables.

Heating cables are installed near the bottom edge of the roof over eaves and in gutters and down spouts, where ice is most likely to form. By sensing low temperatures and moisture, the system automatically adjusts heat levels to use energy only when needed. Ice is melted and water is able to drain off the roof.
