As the fall weather arrives in the mountains of Colorado and the snow and ice are right around the corner, it’s important to ensure that your home’s gutters are in good condition. When gutters become clogged or broken they can create a whole host of problems.
Clogged Gutters Can Cause Water Damage
When properly installed, gutter collect water and keep it away from your home. If they become clogged they can cause water to pool on the roof and eventually damage the roof and underlying structure.
Because heavy snow and ice on steeply sloped roofs can damage gutters. Consider installing snow guards.
Check your gutters regularly for debris and clean them regularly to prevent build up of dirt, leaves and pine needles.
Unhealthy Water Pooling
When water is allowed to collect near home it can seep into the foundation, attracting insects and providing a perfect environment for mold and mildew. Ensure that downspouts are installed correctly so they drain the water away form the foundation.
